During my work with different international & local NGOs and UN agencies, a humanitarian path launched by working with the World Health Organization (WHO), I was struck by the following observations:
1. The lack of coordination between different NGOs in the field resulting in unnecessary duplication in services and activities.
2. The importance of raising awareness on mental health issues among the different strata of society to counter the stigma associated with Mental Health and psychological/psychiatric disorders;
3. The lack of a national body able to effectively respond to the mental health issues that arise during and in the aftermath of a disaster; and
4. The lack of research and evidence-based approaches in mental health in Lebanon.
