Open Access Publishing

The disclosure of the research is published in Open Access.

The Free Access journals comply with the norms and practices of the subscription scientific publication system - peer review process, indexed in databases, have an impact factor and are made up of researchers and scientific societies.

Currently, most of the journals of publishers and scientific societies have articles in open access. To support free access publication fees are charged to the Authors -- there is therefore a need to know the publication policies of each journal to which you want to submit articles.

Publications in open access (journal articles, communications to conferences, books, theses, dissertations) of UNL teachers and researchers are deposited in RUN - Repositório do Universidade Nova.

The RCAAP - Scientific Repository of Open Access of Portugal is the unique point of research, discovery, location and access to thousands of scientific and academic documents, namely articles of scientific journals, communications to conferences, theses and dissertations, distributed by numerous Portuguese repositories.

At a time when the European Commission's funding policies through the HORIZON 2020 program and the Science and Technology Foundation require open access to the scientific output resulting from the R & D projects funded by it (within 6 months at most from the date of publication in the case of the medical sciences) and Decree-Law no. 115/2013 of August 7 (Law on the Legal Deposit of Theses and Dissertations), which obliges the archiving of theses and dissertations in institutional repositories 60 days after Its defense - the institutional repository RUN presents a relevant structure and information that allow to evaluate the impact of the scientific production carried out at NOVA(UNL).

It should be noted that both the European Commission through the OpenAIRE portal and the FCT through the RCAAP portal have monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the scientific output resulting from projects funded by them is available in open access. In this regard, RUN plays a key role, not only because it enables faculty / researchers to meet funding requirements, but also because it is interoperable with OpenAIRE portals (which aggregates all open source, European Commission) and RCAAP (which in the near future will add all open-source scientific production funded by FCT).
